And, of course, we mustn't forget the starlings...

This is now the second year that we've had starlings nesting in our garden ~ like with the pond, no sooner had the wall been put together than they decided it was a good place to raise their family!

We had a lot of rocks to find a use for when we had the bathroom/utility wall dealt with last year, so we asked Vernon to make some of them into a "dry-stone" retaining wall.  This has dealt very nicely with the difference in levels, and the starlings obviously like it too!

I've no idea whatsoever what the interior looks like but plainly this pair of starlings think it is a very desirable residence.

They were both so busy feeding their young, constantly back and forth with tasty morsels.

With us being out in the garden virtually every day these past few months, we had lots of opportunities to watch Mum and Dad.

This fella was obviously channelling its inner punk 😄

Although she liked sparrows, my mother-in-law really disliked starlings, describing them as "greedy birds".  When you watch them interact with each other, though, they are no more greedy or squabbly (is that a proper word do you think LOL) than any of the others.  I think they are beautiful, and I really hope they nest in our little wall for many years to come  😊
